Saturday's Best Bets

Saturday is a cracker of a days racing with a fair number of the Melbourne Spring carnival contenders going around. Horses like Eremein, El Segundo, Miss Finland, Desert War, Aqua D'Amore, Pompei Ruler, Zipping, Railings, and Headturner will have all eyes on them, but there's also some West Aussie interest there too courtesy of Miss Andretti, Let Go Thommo and Valparaiso.

BEST FAVOURITE: Perth Race 1 Number 3-ALCHEMIC. One start for one win has Alchemic looking like a certainty in the opening event. It beat our horse Swiss Watch on debut, and having drawn the inside barrier in this small field, it should just jump nicely and follow the rail around. Pre post price 7/4.

BEST EACH WAY: Sydney Race 7 Number 4-DESERT WAR. For a bit more value I'm sticking with Gai (cos she owes me a few bob from last week's tip) and looking for a nice each way bet on Desert War in the Hill Stakes at Rosehill. OK, he's up against the WFA Champ Eremein, but with Railings and Headturner not yet fully tuned, he appears as an excellent chance. Remember also that he won this race last year on his way to winning the Epsom handicap. Pre post price 3/1.

BEST OUTSIDER: Perth Race 8 Number 2-KAME'S HOPE. In the last race at Belmont, Kame's Hope is third up from a spell. He ran a very good first up second, and then had numerous excuses second up when he hung in and also lost a plate. The jockey is in form and there's definite value there...Pre post price 10/1.
