Our Smoking Joe put the writing on the wall for a great MC run when he finished a close up fifth in the Cox Plate on Saturday. It's clear that all Joe needs on Cup Day is a spit of rain, in fact the more the better for him, and he'll be right in the finish. Zipping redeemed himself for being beaten in the Caulfield Cup when he took out the Moonee Valley Cup on Saturday by a narrow margin.
Quite a few contenders will go around in the MacKinnon Stakes this Saturday including Cup outsiders Railings, Headturner, Sphenophyta, Growl, and Legs (NZ). Dizelle will go into the Cup without another run and trainer John Hawkes is reported to be very happy with her progress.
