Melbourne Cup Countdown 39 Days To Go!

Yeats Go-Ahead For Melb Trip!
The on-off saga surrounding star Irish stayer Yeats's participation in the Gr1 Melbourne Cup "was finally resolved when the UK Gr1 Ascot Gold Cup winner was given the green light for a trip to Australia," reported racingpost.co.uk. Jockey Mick Kinane (who partnered Vintage Crop to a history-making victory in the 1993 Melbourne Cup) "is thought to be on stand-by for the ride in the event that Kieren Fallon (currently banned from riding in a number of jurisdictions outside Ireland) is unable to partner the 5YO".

Trainer Aidan O'Brien "ended weeks of uncertainty when he confirmed Yeats was an intended runner in the November 7 contest". O'Brien confirmed: "Yeats will go into quarantine at Ballydoyle on Friday (today) for 2 weeks & the plan is to travel to Australia as long as everything is okay with the horse. When he gets to Australia he will spend a further 2 weeks in quarantine, so hopefully it all will work out. He seems in good form since the Irish St Leger. Nothing has been decided about a jockey."
