The Weekends Best Bets
BEST FAVOURITE: Sphenophyta MR 8 No 7.
Lightly raced 6yo gelding whose 11 starts have yielded 4 wins and 4 seconds. Forget his unplaced run behind El Segundo last time out-the ride left a bit to be desired. Current second favourite for the Caulfield Cup and he'll shorten even more for both Cups after this race. Expected price about 5/2-3/1.
BEST EACH WAY: Woodalla Perth R4 No9.
The trainer fancied this last week but the mare wasn't suited by a slow pace but still ran home the second fastest sectional (600m) in the race. She gets in on the minimum here with 53kg and receives 9kg from the likely favourite Black Tom, who I doubt will be sharp enough to win this as his trainer Frank Maynard has one race on his mind-the Melbourne Cup in a months time. Apart from these two they're a so-so bunch and at around 6/1-7/1, she'll be a terrific each way bet for you.
BEST OUTSIDER: Dizelle Sydney R6 No6.
If you followed my each way tip last week, and you don't mind giving them one bad run, then stick with Dizelle. She was ridden from a mile back and wasn't that far from the winner so we'll go again with her. It's Hawkes and Beadman, and she did win the VRC Oaks, so you'll have a chance and at 12/1 or thereabouts, you might be getting your money back!
